The Masonic Order of Athelstan was founded in 2005 with the primary aim of encouraging research into Anglo- Saxon history in general, and the events associated with King Athelstan in particular.

This purpose of this website is to publish a Body of Knowledge about the Anglo-Saxon era and the life and reign of King Athelstan the Glorious .

The Athelstan Body of Knowledge is a searchable repository of references to information about Anglo-Saxon History in general, and the Athelstan era in particular.

The site is still at an experimental stage, however the intent is to gather content from trusted sources and add to the Body of Knowledge. The current content is for demonstration purpose.

The main feature is the Instant Search facility. Simply start entering search words and the search engine will immediately start to locate matching entries and present the results.

The user can then read the abstract, then click on the link to go to the source reference material to read more.

AI assisted Research

With the coming of AI Large Language Models such as Google Bard and chatGPT, these are proving useful for requesting information about a topic

A word of caution. All AI models have the Caveat “The result is not guaranteed to be correct” and initial use has proved that to be so.

However if you want to try it out, go to Ask Alcuin and decide for yourself. This feature is very much work in progress.

Hint: The answers rarely come with the source references, however you can ask for them. It is good practice to do that and check out those references when you want to be absolutely sure. If you intend to publish material based on the answers, someone else will!
